Towards Internationalization:
The Dynamic Leadership that Makes Things Happen
Emerging stronger from the pandemic, the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management remains a trailblazer. Geared towards internationalization, SIHTM makes things happen as it grabs opportunities to build its network and linkages. Throughout the academic year 2022-2023, SIHTM was able to provide opportunities to hundreds of its students exposure on a global scale.

In August 2022, SIHTM’s practicum program was recognized by the Commission on Higher Education as it gave UB-SIHTM the Best Internationalization Practice During the Pandemic Award. The practicum program is evidence of how SIHTM makes things possible through its ingenuity despite the halted momentum for industry exposure, the school paved a program with the same training experience for its students by capitalizing on digital spaces and on innovative ideas.
In October 2022, UB partnered with Centara Hotels & Resorts allowing the participation of 3 students in the cross-border academic mobility program in Thailand followed by 63 more students who went to the different provinces in Thailand in December 2022 for the same program.

In November 2022, more than a hundred students and faculty participated in the cross-border academic cooperation and cultural immersion program in Malaysia.

Furthermore, in 2023, through SIHTM’s LIFE Academy, UB ranked 47th in entrepreneurial spirit by the World Universities with Real Impact.

Through a partnership, in June 2023, 13 SIHTM students participated in the student exchange program with Khon Kaen University, Thailand.

Beyond the international collaborations and partnerships, SIHTM remained proactive in providing programs and activities allowing opportunities for student and faculty development.

The school’s achievements in just an academic year showcase the school’s dedication to its commitment to training worldwide experts in the industry. And behind these accomplishments is the teamwork among the SIHTM family specifically its faculty members and staff, under the leadership of its dynamic dean, Ms. Jenelyn Mangangey-Magpatoc. As a true visionary, she epitomizes a leader who thinks outside the box foreseeing future trends and developments thus allowing the school to stay ahead of the curve and remain a trailblazer. With enthusiasm, she inspires the team to share ideas and while shaping further the School of IHTM, she ensures that innovations lead to significant changes and impact. Having to see the possibilities that others might overlook and with her determination to lead the team, possibilities are turned into reality.
As Michael Jordan has said,
“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.”
