A Leader With Involvement And Evolvement

Updated: Aug 21, 2023

From being a humble SIHTM SSC Representative to being the UB SSC Executive Secretary, and now the Deputy Prime Minister… This is indeed a once-in-a-lifetime journey that changed my life and played a big contribution to my student-leader experience.

Coming from the so-called “Home of Champions”, there is always a pressure to represent my school and execute the SIHTM standards at an institutional level. There is always a connotation that SIHTM Students are always well-groomed, competitive, and well-disciplined, and as their SSC representative, I inculcated these standards and showed the University why we deserve to be called such. With this journey, a whole new world was opened to me. I was able to represent Baguio City, the University of Baguio, and the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management in different events, seminars, and workshops inside and outside the city.

I am honored that I was able to embody both Baguio City and the University of Baguio during the “I Transform Youth Lead Convention” at Teachers Camp where I met different SK Chairmans and Student Leaders from all over the country. I was also given the opportunity to meet the different school officers of different colleges in the Cordillera Administrative Region at Kings College of the Philippines during the Student Congress 2022.

As the SIHTM SSC Representative I was able to get along with new friends, gain new learnings, and absorb a lot of knowledge. With the things that I have experienced, the most significant would probably be when I was invited as a Guest Speaker in Isabela during a certain leadership seminar in which I proudly executed the standards of a champion coming from the SIHTM department. Through this, I was given the chance to share my student leader journey all throughout my life, and share what my advisers and teachers taught me, especially on how to handle certain scenarios as a leader. And of course, I was also granted to share the learnings that I gained from the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management and inspire the event’s participants to pursue a student leader life.

To use my voice in raising awareness on subjects that matter, implement projects that would benefit my fellow UBians, and create partnerships with different organizations in order to help the unprivileged in the community — are my core values why I am in this position.

As John Wooden once said, "Don't give up on your dreams, or your dreams will give up on you." Simple lines indeed, yet can move mountains in a deeper sense. With this, as a UB SSC Prime Minister, I will do my best to make a change — to be impactful and purposeful, to be a helping hand, and to render service to my fellow champions as I proudly live by the statement “to be A DEDICATED REPRESENTATIVE FOR A STRONGHOLD UNIVERSITY”.

Looking back to where I started, I realized that it was my passion to involve myself in the community that made me evolve into becoming a better servant now. This then I think is the most important thing that a leader must always remember first before improving — to be involved.
