In a determined effort to promote awareness and action towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, the University of Baguio-School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management has initiated a series of dialogues titled Advocating Change for Tomorrow: The UB-SIHTM Sustainatalks."
The Sustainatalks initiative was launched last September 2022. It was organized by the students enrolled under TPC 109 (Sustainable Tourism & Quality Tourism Development) and was led by their adviser, Ms. Lauren Kaye D. Navarro. This was an opportunity for students to engage in meaningful discussions centered around a specific SDG.
The first dialogue was participated by students from Joji Ilagan International School (Davao) last October 2022, which focused on SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities. Building on the success of the first dialogue, it continued to inspire change-makers around the globe. In December 2022, students from Cientifica Universidad del Sur (Peru) passionately tackled SDG 6, which addresses the critical need for Clean Water and Sanitation for all. Recently, STIEPAR YAPARI (Indonesia) ended the first leg of this dialogue series by sharing their programs related to SDG 11, as well.
These dialogues aim to foster collaboration among international educational institutions, encouraging students to explore, discuss, and advocate for achieving these global goals. Through these efforts, the UB-SIHTM demonstrates its commitment to nurturing global citizens who are not only well-versed in the UN's SDGs but also empowered to take active roles in driving positive change. The initiative highlights the importance of cross-border collaboration and collective action in addressing pressing global challenges.
As the Sustainatalks initiative continues to gain traction, the UB-SIHTM remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing a generation of informed, engaged, and passionate individuals who will lead the charge in achieving the 17 SDGs by 2030. With each dialogue, a ripple effect of change spreads across borders, uniting young minds from various corners of the world under the banner of sustainable development.
