Annual Skills Olympics 2023: Back From The Past, Into The Future

The Annual Skills Olympics 2023 recently took place, captivating participants and spectators alike with its extraordinary showcase of talents and skills. Led by Chairman Sean Kellie Cayabyab and Co-Chairwoman Bea Margaret Chewachew, along with Faculty Chairperson Kresdale May Pacalso, this year's event exceeded all expectations, leaving a lasting impact on the students of the School of International Hotel and Tourism Management (SIHTM). This year’s Skills Olympics offered four different categories to cater the different specializations, namely, Hospitality Category, Tourism Category, Culinary Category and the Open Category, which provided an inclusive opportunity for students from various specializations to exhibit their field of expertise.


The event commenced on March 20, 2023 with a grand Opening Ceremony that set the stage for the thrilling competitions to come. Special Performing Arts and two members of the UB Graces stole the show with a mesmerizing flash mob and soul-stirring song performance. Dean Jenelyn Mangangey-Magpatoc led a symbolic toasting ceremony, fostering unity and camaraderie among the participants. Adding a touch of glamour, the faculty members graced the runway, showcasing their professions and further igniting the participants' determination to excel.


The much-anticipated awarding ceremony took place on April 26, 2023, honouring the exceptional achievements of the participants. With the above-mentioned competitions, the following exemplary students were awarded a gold medal and certificate for garnering gold with distinction.


Intermissions during the awarding ceremony also showcased the diverse talents of the organizers. The Front Liners Club, led by Ms. Jaisen Valoria and her team, dazzled the audience with their performances, while the officers of the different organizations, headed by Ms. Xyra Noshka Talamayan and Ms. Angelica Mae Mabutas, provided engaging intermissions that added to the overall experience of the attendees. To enhance the excitement of the closing ceremony, the faculty members added a delightful touch by organizing a song and dance intermission. Led by the talented Ms. Leah Gabudao and her team, a captivating serenade mesmerized the students, while an energetic dance performance led by Ms. Pamela Mae Consul garnered applause and shattered preconceived notions of serious teachers. The faculty members' participation showcased their ability to embrace the joyful atmosphere and demonstrated their dedication to creating a memorable experience for the students.


As the Annual Skills Olympics drew to a close, Ms. Maria Victoria Natividad delivered a heartfelt closing message, reflecting on the remarkable journey that unfolded during the event. Her words resonated deeply, reminding participants of their dedication, passion, and the immense impact of their efforts.


The Annual Skills Olympics 2023 will be etched in the memories of all involved as a testament to the exceptional talents within the SIHTM. Under the exemplary leadership of the student and faculty chairpersons, together with their working committee from the Front Liners Club, Thailand Group, and the volunteer working committees, the Annual Skills Olympics 2023 marked a significant milestone in the students of the School of IHTM’s journey toward success. The Skills Olympics 2023 indeed was able to embody the SIHTM’s commitment to nurturing globally competitive students.
