For the longest time, I believed that experience is the best teacher, yet I found myself trapped within the confines of my comfort zone. Fear and hesitation held me back from exploring the world beyond what I was familiar with. But today, I can proudly say that taking the risk to step out of my comfort zone was the best decision I ever made. This realization dawned upon me when I embraced the opportunity to become an exchange student at the College of Local Administration, Khon Kaen University (KKU-COLA), Thailand, through the collaborative program between the University of Baguio and KKU-COLA.
Upon arrival in the University, we were warmly embraced by the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere. The support and encouragement we received from the Dean, faculty members, and fellow students have been instrumental in making our journey smooth and memorable. The place where we stayed became home, and the people we met became friends. At COLA, it’s not just reading a book or writing, we learn as we have fun. Thus, we enveloped ourselves with knowledge that would help us in our future careers.
We were able to join and enjoy lots of activities where we expressed ourselves and presented our own culture.
My two-month stay in Khon Kaen has been an absolute whirlwind of personal growth and exploration. As the days passed, I found myself immersed in the richness of Thai culture and captivated by the vibrancy of everyday life in the enchanting city. The experience of living and learning in a foreign country has been nothing short of eye-opening. Each day, I discovered something new, whether it was a unique attire, a traditional dish, or a captivating aspect of the local community. This journey allowed me to understand the beauty of diversity and the significance of cross-cultural exchange.
As we left and came to the end of our stay as exchange students, it was not a goodbye but not until our paths crossed again. Indeed, I arrived back in the Philippines with a heart full of gratitude and a promise to embrace every opportunity to explore the world and cherish the beauty of diversity wherever life takes me next.
