In a remarkable display of adaptability and innovation, the University of Baguio’s School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (UB-SIHTM) successfully concluded its highly anticipated Tourism Week 2022. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic, the event took place virtually, providing an engaging and interactive platform for students to showcase their skills, reimagine tourism, and celebrate the spirit of the industry.
Organized by the Travel Club, the UB-SIHTM Tourism Week, held from September 30 to October 8, 2022, embraced the theme of “Rethinking Tourism,” urging participants to explore innovative solutions and reimagine the future of the tourism and hospitality sector.
Through various online competitions, participants demonstrated their expertise, creativity, and knowledge across different facets of the industry. The virtual setup allowed students to engage with the event from the safety and convenience of their homes while maintaining the same level of enthusiasm and competitiveness.
Exclusive competitions were held for students in specific subjects, allowing them to showcase their specialized skills and knowledge. In the International Tour Guiding competition, participants captivated virtual audiences with their ability to provide engaging and informative experiences for travelers. The Tour Packaging competition showcased students’ talent for creating enticing and well-organized tour packages, taking into account customer preferences and destination highlights. The Destination Marketing competition saw participants devise innovative strategies to promote specific tourist destinations, leveraging their creativity and marketing skills. In the Flight Attendant Showmanship competition, students showcased their exceptional customer service skills and the ability to create memorable experiences. Lastly, the Nihongo Quiz Bee tested participants’ proficiency in the Japanese language and its relevance to the tourism industry.
In addition to the subject-specific competitions, the UB-SIHTM Tourism Week also featured open categories that invited participation from all SIHTM students. The Destination Photography category allowed students to share captivating photographs that captured the essence and appeal of various tourist destinations. The Travel Infographics competition encouraged participants to showcase their graphic design skills by creating visually compelling and informative infographics. Participants unleashed their creativity and talent in promoting tourism and hospitality through the TikTok Video category in the form of creating short videos. The Travel Feature Writing category provided aspiring travel writers a platform to showcase their storytelling abilities, painting vivid pictures of destinations through their words. Lastly, the Tourism Quiz Bee challenged participants’ knowledge of tourism-related concepts, destinations, and industry trends, fostering a deeper understanding of the field.
The UB-SIHTM Tourism Week commenced with a dynamic virtual opening ceremony on September 30, 2022, which set the stage for a week filled with excitement and competition. Participants immersed themselves in their respective categories, pouring their passion and dedication into their submissions and presentations.
The week concluded with the highly anticipated virtual Awarding Ceremony on October 8, 2022, where the exceptional efforts and achievements of the participants were recognized and celebrated.
