Emphasizing that dialects carry one’s cultural heritage, Bernadett T. Keller, a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management with a specialization in International Tourism student distinctively presented a research paper to hundreds of students and faculty members nationwide during the 18th International Convention on Tourism and Hospitality held virtually last March 11, 2023.
Inspired by Baguio City being culturally diverse and thus the presence of various dialects spoken in the City, the researchers Ma. Nicole Cassandra Ang, Crisha Ann Marie Agustin, Kristelle Faye Astronomia, Djalen Rose Concepcion, Irish Nicole Estoque, and Myzel Wainsley Naval carried out the study presented.
Laying stress on the crucial role of academic institutions in safeguarding local dialects, Keller presented the findings of the study comprehensively whilst leaving a reminder that the importance of languages cannot be undervalued.
Keller ended her presentation by quoting the statement of Lenni Montiel, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs Assistant Secretary-general for Economic Development, “Language is the preservation of invaluable wisdom, traditional knowledge, and expressions of art and beauty, and we have to make sure that we do not lose this”.
The online international convention was hosted by The EdukCircle-International Center for Communication Studies (ICCS). It is an institution that provides a venue for the advancement and essential evaluation of communication practices in different academic fields which has also established itself as a front-runner in the dissemination of recent research in the development of hospitality management and tourism studies.
