A Gastronomical Journey Up North: SIHTM Family enjoys annual R & R and teambuilding in Ilocandia

Updated: Aug 28, 2023

In today’s fast-paced business environment, effective teamwork is more significant than ever. So as the saying goes, “One for all and all for one”, this phrase highlights unity and support within a team, which is the secret behind the success of the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management.

The University of Baguio gives the opportunity to all of its schools and offices to relax, recreate and learn through teambuilding activities at their choice of location annually. With this, the SIHTM team decided to end the year with a trip to the Heart of Ilocandia which concluded last May 21-22, 2023.

The mentors of the champions’ first touchdown was in San Juan, La Union where they had their Filipino breakfast at Hapag La Union. After breakfast, the team headed north taking a 3-and-a-half hours journey to reach the Heritage City of Vigan. The SIHTM mentors headed to the historical and heritage street in Vigan, the one and only Calle Crisologo, after enjoying the authentic Ilocano dishes such as bagnet sisig, pinakbet, pork igado, and sinigang na bangus at Hidden Garden. The faculty members enjoyed taking their Instagrammable photos along Calle Crisologo while some enjoyed souvenir shopping. Capping off the day, the SIHTM team headed to the main venue of the rest and recreation which was Vitalis Villas, located at Sabangan, Santiago, Ilocos Sur. After checking in, the group enjoyed a halo-halo buffet complimented by the sea breeze. The team spent the night enjoying the place while having fellowship, fun, and exciting team-building activities aimed at strengthening the bond among the SIHTM family. Despite the short time spent together, the activity created an impact on the employees through the inspiring words shared by colleagues, laughter that makes the bond of the group stronger, places that made the travel exciting, and the University of Baguio which made the rest and recreation possible. The SIHTM’s rest and recreation activity ended with a sumptuous dinner at Denesia’s Seafood Grill after a side trip at Bahay na Bato and Baluarte Watch Tower in Luna, La Union, and before heading back to Baguio City.

The R & R 2023 committee which was headed by the chairperson, Ms. Leah Mae R. Gabudao, and the committee members, Mr. Alvin Morales, Ms. Dixie Lidawan, and Mr. Chris Evan Amansec, made the R & R a memorable one that makes the SIHTM family look forward for the moments of togetherness for next year and the years ahead.
