A no-ordinary gathering, an event unfolded at the Cordillera Convention Hall of Baguio Country Club on May 29, 2023, for the tribute to the graduating students, their supportive parents, and the dedicated faculty members of the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management of the University of Baguio.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, proud parents' and guardians’ hearts were brimming with joy as they gathered to witness the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. The evening commenced with an air of excitement as SIHTM Dean, Ms. Jenelyn M. Magpatoc, graced the stage and delivered the opening remarks. Her words resonated with gratitude and admiration for the graduating students whose unwavering commitment and resilience had propelled them to that remarkable milestone.
Then the atmosphere was filled with anticipation as Dr. Janice Kaylyn K. Lonogan, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, took the stage for her congratulatory message. Imbued with pride and encouragement, Dr. Lonogan praised the students' exceptional accomplishments and highlighted the importance of their contributions to the future of the hospitality and tourism industry. Afterward, Ms. Melanie R. Saro, the Director of the Linkages Office, delivered a special message emphasizing the significance of the connections forged at the School of IHTM, urging the graduating students to cherish the relationships built and continually seek opportunities for collaboration and growth.
The program also recognized the students’ accomplishments such as academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and unwavering commitment to service. More than the actual awards was actually the recognition of the students’ selflessness, compassion, and ability to motivate others to pursue their goals.
Moreover, the tribute emphasized the immense support and sacrifice of the parents whose unwavering belief in their children's dreams played a pivotal role in their success. The faculty members were highly regarded as well as they have been committed educators who played an essential part in the academic and personal growth of the students. The faculty members consistently went above and beyond their duties in providing guidance and mentorship and motivating students to reach their most significant potential. The program included an acknowledgment of the faculty members’ remarkable teaching abilities, significant influence on students, and gratitude for their relentless efforts in providing a nurturing learning environment.
The hall glimmered with a sense of unity and shared achievement. Graduating students, parents, and faculty members gathered together, embracing the camaraderie that had blossomed throughout an academic journey. Yango, the School's Alumni Relations Coordinator, delivered the closing remarks where she highlighted the significance of paying tribute to the faculty members who dedicated their lives to molding future generations. She expressed gratitude to the parents for their constant support, understanding, and sacrifices. And most importantly, she congratulated the graduating students for their determination, resilience, and the extraordinary journeys they have embarked upon. Lastly was a heartfelt acknowledgment extended to Ms. Kresdale May Pacalso and her student working committee, who worked tirelessly to organize the event making sure that it would be a fitting tribute to the graduating students, parents, and faculty members.
As the doors of the convention hall closed, memories from the event remained etched in the hearts of all those who were part of the celebration. Indeed, it was a night that exemplified the power of unity, resilience and shared dreams.
