“The only skill that will be important in the 21st century is the skill of learning new skills, everything else will become obsolete over time” . . . the empowering closing restatement of the University of Baguio- School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (UB-SIHTM) student Edith Jane Chloe Elegado during the EdukCircle’s 17th International Convention on Tourism and Hospitality held last October 1, 2022.

Once again, UB-SIHTM has walked the talk in proving its height as a globally competent entity during the said event as Edith Jane Chloe Elegado, a BSTM-IT student, collegiately presented the study of Jayson Borja, Adrienne Lei Calamiong, Princess Jasmine Cariño, Kiara Lei Evangelista and Melvia Reboquiao titled “Virtual On-the-Job Training Experience: An Assessment”. The researchers’ adviser is Ms. Jessica T. Faba-an, a SIHTM faculty member.

Coated with poise and wit, Elegado embodied what it takes to be a champ through the presentation. The content of the paper focused on assessing the virtual on-the-job training experiences of the Hotel and Restaurant Management, as well as Tourism Management students of the school who had their senior virtual OJTs during the Academic Year 2020-2021.

Interestingly, the result determined the positive contribution of the said training mode to the students’ preparedness in becoming future tourism and hospitality industry professionals.

Elegado is the only student who presented a paper during the international convention participated virtually by approximately seven hundred students and faculty members from more than thirty schools and universities in the Philippines.
